If you watched the Super Bowl, you know that there are some        exceptional athletes who have been training for years to develop the strength and skills necessary to compete at such a level. It is impressive for sure. They do it for a trophy, fame and of course a lot of money. But when it is all over nothing that they gained will go with them into eternity. Striving mightily, but for what? Fame and fortune are fleeting. As Christ followers we are called to a greater prize. And as a result, we like any serious athlete must as Paul says, “Run in a way to get the prize.”

This morning we will be thinking about the implications of this concept. How it informs our attitudes and actions. What kind of decisions we make, how we spend our time, talents and treasure. You see it really is all about the goal. Paul says, “I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.” Wow what a commitment! Then he tells us in I Corinthians 11:1 “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”

None of us will ever win a Super Bowl ring, but we can gain something so much better. Keep your eyes on the prize.

Blessings,

Rick
