If you were with us last week, you got to share in the excitement of Jeremy Miller’s ordination. This service was performed to show that he is being “set aside” to serve Christ through a special ministry, and our church leaders (as well as our congregation) stood with him and affirmed this.

This raises questions in many people’s minds: “What is God calling ME to do? How can I best serve Him? What should I do to follow Christ to the fullest?” In the specifics, that may look different from person to person. But from a wider perspective, the answer is the same for all Christians. In Mark 8:34, Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

On the surface, this sounds like either an exaggeration or the most challenging thing we’ve ever heard. As we study together today, we will see that Jesus was not exaggerating, but was actually asking us to give only what we owe Him. What are we really willing to give for Jesus?
